Houston, TX – January 31, 2026 –Eternal Gandhi Museum Houston (EGMH) hosted Shraddhanjali: A Memorial Tribute to the Life of Mahatma Gandhi on Saturday, honoring the life, legacy, and enduring ideals of Mahatma Gandhi. The evening brought together a diverse community to reflect on Gandhi’s commitment to truth, nonviolence, peace, and human dignity.
Shraddhanjali, meaning “offering of homage,” provided a space for remembrance and reflection through words, music, dance, and poetry. The program featured a keynote address by Dr. Anne S. Chao, respected community leader and Chair of the EGMH Advisory Board, and an invocation offered by Reverend Mindy Lawrence, from Unity Houston.
The evening included a range of performances that reflected the spirit and universality of Gandhi’s message. Audiences were energized by a rhythmic performance from Rice University’s Basmati Beats, moved by musical presentations from students from the Swar Sangam School of Music, and delighted by vibrant folk dancing presented by MECA (Multicultural Education and Counseling through the Arts). An original poem by Houston Poet Laureate Madison Petaway added a reflective and contemporary voice to the program, alongside additional performances that enriched the tribute.
The event was further honored by the presence of distinguished guests, including Deputy Consul Prashant Sona, representing the Consulate General of India, Houston and Mrs. Sheroo Muktier, CEO of Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston. Together, speakers, performers, and attendees created a meaningful and contemplative evening dedicated to Gandhi’s enduring vision of peace, justice, and nonviolent action.
The museum was open to the public free of charge throughout the day, with docent-led tours offered to all visitors. The program concluded with refreshments and time for reflection and engagement in the lobby.
