An Evening of Dharma and Dialogue: Amish Tripathi Brings Gandhi’s Legacy to Life at Eternal Gandhi Museum Houston

Houston, TX – September 11, 2025 On Sunday, September 7, the halls of the Eternal Gandhi Museum Houston (EGMH) resonated with timeless wisdom as bestselling author Amish Tripathi led an engaging exploration of Mahatma Gandhi’s life through the lens of dharma – duty, balance, and moral courage.

The event was part of JLF Houston, the international edition of the world-renowned Jaipur Literature Festival. Since its inception in India, the Festival has grown into a global platform for dialogue, hosting editions in cities across continents. Its arrival in Houston reflects the city’s growing reputation as a hub for cultural exchange and intellectual engagement.

Before an engaged and diverse audience, Tripathi, one of India’s most celebrated contemporary writers, reflected on how Gandhi’s ideals are deeply rooted in ancient Indian philosophy and remain profoundly relevant in addressing the challenges of the modern world.

In conversation with renowned cultural entrepreneur Sanjoy K. Roy, Tripathi offered insights that were at once scholarly and deeply personal. The dialogue unfolded like a meditation on truth, non-violence, and humanity’s eternal quest for inner and societal harmony.

“Gandhi’s life was not just about politics, it was about showing us how to live with balance, courage, and compassion,” Tripathi observed, drawing applause from the audience.

The program, generously presented by Durga and Sushila Agrawal, left attendees inspired and reflective. Many described the evening as a rare opportunity to engage with ideas that transcend cultures and generations, while also experiencing Gandhi’s enduring spirit in a uniquely contemporary voice.

The enthusiasm did not end with the conversation. Long lines quickly formed for a book signing that followed the program, as admirers eagerly waited for the chance to meet Tripathi in person, exchange a few words, and have their copies personally signed.

Tripathi’s global reputation preceded him: with eleven bestselling books translated into twenty languages and more than seven million copies sold, he stands as one of the fastest-selling authors in Indian publishing history.

This evening beautifully captured what our museum stands for,” said G.V. Krishnan, Trustee of EGMH. “Amish Tripathi reminded us that Gandhi’s teachings are not relics of the past but living principles for building a more peaceful and compassionate world.”

The evening at EGMH was more than just an author talk, it was a shared journey into the values of dharma and ahimsa, affirming the museum’s mission to celebrate Gandhi’s legacy and inspire generations to come.
