Eternal Gandhi Museum Houston (EGMH) hosted a special community presentation titled “The Gandhi–Tagore Exchanges: A Dramatic Dialogue of Letters and Ideas.” Approximately 40 attendees, including members of the Tagore Society, gathered for this free event, enjoying an engaging and thought-provoking performance.
The program featured Professor Vijay Padaki, Trustee Emeritus of the Bangalore Little Theatre Foundation, performing excerpts from his acclaimed play The Prophet and the Poet. The performance brought to life historic letters exchanged between Mahatma Gandhi and Rabindranath Tagore over 25 years of India’s freedom struggle, illustrating how two influential thinkers with differing ideas maintained mutual respect and found common ground.
Supported by the Foundation for Indian Studies, the event offered a rich opportunity for the community to experience this historic dialogue firsthand. Attendees also participated in a lively Q&A session, reflecting on the correspondence and the enduring relevance of Gandhi and Tagore.
“Through this performance, audiences experienced firsthand the dialogue between two of India’s most influential thinkers,” said Katherine Demsky, Museum Executive Director. “It was a wonderful example of how history, literature, and performance can come together to engage and inspire the community.”
EGMH extends its gratitude to Professor Padaki, the Foundation for Indian Studies, and all attendees for making the event memorable. The museum continues to offer free programs connecting the community with Gandhi’s legacy and its ongoing significance.
